Practice

"The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is practice." Vladimir Horowitz

Practice is essential to a successful musical experience. Students should prepare to practice at least 5 days each week.

No matter how productive your practice session is, you always lose some of what you learned between your practice times so ideally you should practice as close to your lesson time as possible in order to solidify what was just learned.

Parental involvement is also crucial to the success of the student. Parents should encourage a regularly scheduled practice time and make every effort to stick to that and provide a distraction-free environment for the student. For younger students, parents should prepare to sit with the child during at least a portion of their practice time.

Lesson Attendance

Students are expected to attend each scheduled lesson due to the fact that upon registration your time-slot is reserved. Please remember that our studio operates at full capacity; however, make-ups for missed lessons are required. No refunds will be given for missed make-up lessons and credits are only available for 24-hour advanced notice of absence if a make-up is not available.

Any lessons missed by an instructor due to illness or emergency will be rescheduled as soon as possible or credited if a make-up is not available.

Please be on time! Your time slot is valuable as is the time of the next student and we cannot extend your time if you are late. If a parent/student/teacher conference is needed, please attend your student's lesson for assignment clarity and/or schedule a conference time with me on another day so that we do not run into the next student's lesson.

Summer lessons are scheduled on a by-the-lesson basis. Students not enrolling in summer lessons are not guaranteed a studio slot for the following year.

Equipment

All students must have a piano, digital piano, or keyboard for home practice. Keyboards will be available for weekly rental through K2G as needed while students are in the process of purchasing their own instrument. Beginning students may purchase a 61-key keyboard for their initial trial period, however upon reaching the intermediate level students should prepare to invest in a full-size (88 key) weighted keyboard with touch-sensitive keys and pedals.

Ukulele students should prepare to purchase strings, cases, straps, etc. throughout the year.

Fees & Payment Schedule

A non-refundable enrollment fee of $35 per family is due at the beginning the Fall semester (or lesson enrollment) of each year. This fee covers the cost of student notebooks, group materials, studio technology, and studio recitals.

Students will need to purchase method books and music occasionally throughout the year.  Additional fees may be required for festivals, competitions, and other performance events.

Tuition statements will be emailed prior to the first lesson of each month with a reminder of upcoming tuition charges, any outstanding tuition charges, as well as any additional material or event fees. Tuition is due at the first lesson of the month.  A $15 late fee will be assessed on all payments received after 7 days of the first lesson.

Students should plan to commit to lessons for the full school year, however, if unforeseen circumstances require termination of lesson mid-year, 2 week's paid notice is required to end lessons.

Media Release

Photos of students and video and audio recordings of student projects and performances may be posted online and used by the instructor for promotional and workshop materials.  Identifying information will be excluded or limited to first names only.  Parents wishing to exempt their students from any published media may do so by providing a written exclusion request.
